The city of Nanjing, Jiangsu province hosted a meeting to review schools applying for the Sino-US exchange program "1000 Schools Hands Together", on Nov 3.

Ding Xiaochang, director-general of the Education Department of Jiangsu Province, addressed the meeting. Ding gave a brief introduction to the province's education work, and expressed his hope that the program would facilitate Sino-US exchange and promote educational development in Jiangsu province.

The "1000 Schools Hands Together" program was initiated at the U.S.-China High-Level Consultation on people-to-people exchange, and was officially launched by Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Beijing on July, 2014.

The program plans to select 1,000 schools in China and the United States to launch Sino-US cultural and educational exchange activities on environmental protection and green life themes.

The meeting chose about 20 from 84 schools in the country as model schools to take the lead in Sino-US cultural and educational exchange.
