Shen Jian, director of the Education Department of Jiangsu province, attended the inauguration as well as a meeting of education officials, and signed several cooperation agreements with ASEAN organizations.
At the meeting, Shen outlined the development of education in Jiangsu province and the progress that had been made in educational exchange between Jiangsu and ASEAN countries. He introduced the regional advantages of Jiangsu province, especially in education resources, and made various suggestions for mutual exchange.
During the meeting, the Jiangsu education department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), an international organization established in 1965 among governments of Southeast Asian countries to promote regional cooperation in education, science and culture in Southeast Asia.

The MOU indicates that the province plans to promote educational cooperation through student exchange, teacher training, delegation visits and international conferences. Jiangsu will establish a "Jasmine" scholarship for outstanding exchange students from ASEAN countries in 2016, according to the MOU.
Jiangsu also reached a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Education of Myanmar to launch a three-year exchange project starting in 2016. Each year, about 100 notable students from Myanmar will take part in an overseas study trip to vocational colleges in Jiangsu province.
