The Ministry of Education of China recently approved 17 new international joint laboratories in the country.
Jiangsu topped the list with five labs approved. With Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology's joint lab for climate and environment change approved in 2014, Jiangsu now has six international joint labs, accounting for 30 percent of such labs in the country.
The universities newly approved to establish the labs include Nanjing University, Southeast University, Jiangnan University, Nanjing Tech University and Yangzhou University.
The construction of international joint labs is part of China's Long-term Plan for National Education Reform and Development from 2010 to 2020. The plan aims to enhance cooperation with top foreign universities and create an international platform for joint academic research and talent training.
