Jiangsu rolls out new gaokao policy

(ec.js.edu.cn) Updated:2016-02-26

East China’s Jiangsu province will adopt a new policy for gaokao, the national university entrance exam, from 2021, according to a press conference held by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education on Feb 23.

The new policy will feature a “three plus three” scoring system. The total score will consist of the grades of the three compulsory subjects, Chinese, mathematics and English, and three optional subjects selected from either politics, history, geography, physics, chemistry and biology.

Compared with the current “three plus two” scoring system, the new policy will increase the number of optional subjects from any two to any three.

The new policy will first be adopted by grade 10 students enrolled in the fall of 2018 and implemented in the gaokao of 2021.
