Mingda Polytechnic Institute was sponsored by patriotic Taiwan compatriots -- Gu Huaizu, Gu Jiandong and Gu Huaiyou as well as their relatives.

It was initially approved in 1995 and got official approval from the Ministry of Education in March 1999 and became a full-time private institute which is qualified to independently award the college diplomas to its students and the only one of its kind in Yancheng city.

There are a total of 25 disciplines in 10 departments, such as economics and trade, information engineering, electrical engineering, tourism, foreign languages and art & design. 

The College covers an area of around 800 mu (533,328 square meters) and has about 5,000 full-time students and a floorage of 120,000 sq m.

Its library has 320,000 volumes, including over 500 kinds of Chinese journals. The facilities for teaching and living are all well-equipped.
