The UK Independent Schools Entry Test (UKiset), an adaptive online entry test designed to support admission to UK independent schools, is now available in Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu province.
It settled in the city after a deal signed between the test operator Gabbitas Educational Consultants and Jiangsu Education Services for International Exchange, a body under the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, on Feb 29.
UKiset is aimed at students from nine-and-a-half to 18 years old, and will evaluate their ability to cope in an English speaking school. It measures their underlying abilities in core skills (such as language, mathematics and problem solving) and aptitude for learning. It is a standardized assessment that can be used to identify a candidate's strengths, weaknesses and learning preferences.
The University of Durham and the University of Cambridge contributed towards the test’s design with the British Council is in charge of the test supervision.
So far, about 150 top private schools in the UK take the test score as an important part in recruiting international students. The number of secondary schools in the UK accepting UKiset is expected to exceed 500 in 2016.
UKiset has test centers in more than 130 countries around the world, as well as another four Chinese cities, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu.
