Jiangsu, Laos further cooperation in higher education

Jiangsu higher educational institutions have confirmed their commitment to continue exchanges with Laos and develop talents in high-tech industries as the two sides seek to further educational ties.

Jiangsu Vocational College of Information Technology (JSIT) will recruit 40 to 80 students from the country this year, according to an agreement signed between the Wuxi-based polytechnic and a delegation from the Lao Education Ministry on March 16.

The delegation was headed by Khamleusa Nuansavanh, chief of the student affairs department of the Lao Education Ministry. While speaking at the signing ceremony, he expressed hope that Laos would benefit from the cooperation with JSIT and result in a greater number of graduates in technology subjects.

Jiangsu is devoted to enhancing cooperation in the field of higher education with countries along the Belt and Road, according to Ding Xiaochang, deputy director of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education. Speaking at the event, Ding said he was glad to welcome more students from Laos to study in Jiangsu.

In support of the national Belt and Road Initiative, Jiangsu has enrolled more than 600 students from countries involved in the initiative in the past two years. There are now 27 vocational colleges in the province that enroll students from such countries.

According to Ding, 485 Lao students currently study in 23 higher educational institutions in Jiangsu; 454 of whom are degree students.

The polytechnic will offer scholarships to outstanding Lao students and seek cooperation with the educational delegation in terms of academic exchanges and teacher training, according to Lu Guoping, Party secretary of JSIT.
