East China's Jiangsu province will continue to provide support for the educational development in Ili Kazak autonomous prefecture of Xinjiang in the following five years, according to an agreement signed between the Jiangsu and Ili educational administrations on March 28.

In a bid to promote educational development during the 13th Plan period (2016-2020), the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education will encourage educational exchange between Jiangsu and Xinjiang, help foster educational talents, enroll more Xinjiang students to Jiangsu higher educational institutions and further cooperation in joint school running, said Shen Jian, director-general of the department.

He added that Jiangsu has made great efforts in supporting education in Xinjiang during the previous Five-Year Plan, with the contribution praised by the central government and people in Xinjiang.

From 2011 to 2015, Jiangsu has allocated 1.52 billion yuan ($233.5 million) for educational development in Ili, leading other provinces in the country. It has also helped train about 50,000 teachers and facilitated exchanges between schools at various levels.
