Jiangsu and Australia will further enhance educational cooperation through moves in promoting exchange programs and setting up scholarships and sister schools.

The consensus was reached during a meeting between Dr. Shen Jian, Director-general of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, and Mr. Graeme Meehan, Australian Consulate General to Shanghai, on May 6.

Dr. Shen welcomed the Australian delegation to the department and briefed them about the achievements of Jiangsu in international educational exchange.

About 300 Australian students studied at Jiangsu universities in 2015, and the number of joint education projects between Jiangsu and Australia reached 61, accounting for 17 percent of all joint education projects in Jiangsu, according to Shen.

He also suggested facilitating exchange platforms and setting up scholarships to attract outstanding students to study abroad.

Mr. Meehan agreed with Shen’s suggestions and said that Australia is willing to join hands with Jiangsu to foster international talents. He also suggested that both sides encourage intercollegiate exchange between basic education institutions.
