Educational officials from Jiangsu and Laos agreed to enhance educational exchange and cooperation between both sides.

The agreement was reached during the meeting between Ding Xiaochang, vice chief of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, and a delegation from Lao Ministry of Education and Sports, which was visiting the department on May 11.

Ding briefed the visitors about Jiangsu’s achievements in international education exchange and looked back on the education cooperation between the Jiangsu and Laos.

He made particular mention of the establishment of the Soochow University in Laos (SUL), the first overseas affiliate of a Chinese university, which has helped Laos foster a group of talents for the East Asian country’s economic and social development since 2010.

Ding also suggested that both sides should continue to take advantage of the Belt and Road Initiative, promote skilled personnel training programs and offer support to the development of SUL.

The Lao delegation agreed with Ding’s suggestions and expressed its appreciation to Jiangsu’s contributions to Laos’ educational development. Both sides also exchanged opinions on the non-governmental funded education.
