Non-profit organizations (NPO) from Jiangsu and Taiwan have agreed to further exchange and cooperation in basic education.

The statement was made during a visit of a delegation from the Taiwan International Youth Exchange Association (TIYEA) to the Jiangsu Education Services for International Exchange (JESIE), a division under the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education on May 10.

The officials at JESIE briefed the Taiwan NPO about the preparation work of the second Jiangsu-Taiwan Forum on Basic Education Development, which is to be held in Taipei later this year.

The event, which serves as a platform facilitating cross-Straits cooperation in basic education, was launched in 2015, with the first forum held in Suzhou, Jiangsu province in November.

Both sides agreed on the schedule, theme and participants of the forum and also reached consensus in developing it into a brand program facilitating cooperation and exchange between schools from both sides.

TIYEA is aimed encouraging students from Taiwan to broaden their outlook and give them the opportunities to experience different cultures.

JESIE has been promoting international student exchanges since 1988.
