Language and culture experience center opens in Suzhou

An exhibition hall to display images and exhibits of the UNESCO International Conference on Language, a global meeting held in Suzhou which examined all things related to language, opened in the city on June 15.
The building, located in the State Language Commission's training base in the city, is a multifunctional hall featuring recording equipment and displays. It also serves as a language and cultural experience center for students and language enthusiasts.
Eric Falt, assistant director-general for external relations and public information at UNESCO, along with officials from the Ministry of Education, provincial education department and Jiangsu universities took part in the opening ceremony.
Falt emphasized the importance of protecting language diversity in his speech.
With an area of about 700 square meters, the hall is comprised of a World Pavilion and a China Pavilion, showing the achievements of the conference and national language development, and the latest high-tech audio devices.
The city held the International Conference on Language in June, 2014, attracting more than 400 educational officials and linguists to share opinions on the theme of “enhancing language ability and education”.
