China's first int'l joint venture university celebrates a decade in Suzhou

Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) marked its 10th anniversary with a day of celebrations on its newly built South Campus in Suzhou on July 26.

Founded in 2006, XJTLU is the first international joint venture university in China, which sponsored by Xi'an Jiaotong University and the University of Liverpool.
XJTLU, dubbed the "paradigm of joint venture universities", and the "pioneer in Chinese higher education reform" has been widely recognized for its unique international school-running features over the past 10 years.
Zheng Qinghua, professor and vice president of Xi’an Jiaotong University spoke highly of the university's achievements over the decade at the anniversary ceremony and said XJTLU has been creating a new paradigm for the higher education in China and across the world.
Since 2006, the university has witnessed a rapid growth in both student enrollment and academic reputation, said Janet Beer, professor and vice-chancellor of the University of Liverpool.
To celebrate the anniversary the university unveiled a series of new facilities, such as the Honor Plaza, International Technology Transfer Centre, International Innovation Hub, and XJTLU-Jincheng Financial Center and the School of Film and Television Arts.
Xi Youmin, professor and executive president of XJTLU, said, "With the unremitting efforts and support from all sides, XJTLU will set a new model for higher education that will exert a strong influence on the development of education in China and the world."
