Jiangsu education chief urges more cooperation with ASEAN

The China-ASEAN Vocational Education Cooperation Dialogue, part of a series events for the ninth China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, took place in Guiyang, capital city of southwest China’s Guizhou province on Aug 1.

Shen Jian, chief of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, took part and delivered a keynote speech, making special note that the Jiangsu’s flourishing economy is benefiting from its first-rate vocational education.

With a considerable engagement in international exchanges, Jiangsu attracted more than 1,000 overseas students enrolled in 24 vocational colleges in 2015, 64 percent of whom were degree students. The province also opened vocational training institutes and programs in Southeast Asia for “going-out” enterprises, said Shen. He also suggested setting up a cooperation alliance for Chinese and ASEAN vocational colleges, fostering skilled personnel for enterprises and enhancing educational exchanges to deepen vocational education cooperation between China and ASEAN.

The ninth China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, themed "Education First, Make Dreams Come True Together", attracted more than 200 Chinese and ASEAN educational experts and officials. The annual event was co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, and the Guizhou Government, and was undertaken by Guizhou University, China Education Association for International Exchange, China Educational Instrument & Equipment Corp.
