Changzhou Foreign Language School safe: investigation
(Xinhua) Updated:2016-08-27
The environment of Changzhou Foreign Language School is safe and there is no link between the location of the school with an increased incidence of thyroid nodule among school kids, an investigation concluded on Friday.
The city government of east China's Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province told Xinhua that the investigation team led by the State Council has checked the air, soil and groundwater in the school for over three months and has found no pollutants exceeding national standard.
The investigators said the incidence of thyroid nodule among the general public is also on the rise.
The campus is near a plot of land that was the former site of three chemical plants, which were shut down in 2011.
The investigators also pointed out that there were some problems with the earlier soil rehabilitation process, such as the lack of an airtight shed and waste gas collection equipment.
The Changzhou city government has ordered stepping up environmental supervision during the soil rehabilitation process.
