Jiangsu has endeavored to raise its profile in higher vocational education worldwide, as the province witnessed a boom of international students studying at higher vocational colleges last year.

Nearly 2,655 international students were enrolled in 2016, twice as much as the previous year. Additionally, 90 percent of these students were from Belt and Road countries.

Owed to Jiangsu’s effort of promoting higher vocational education and the country’s emphasis on cooperation with Belt and Road countries, enrolling international students is the best and most efficient way to create an international dialogue.

Students from ASEAN countries account for about 90 percent of the total 126 international students currently studying at Jiangsu Vocational Institute of Commerce. Among their three-year study, they focus on improving their Chinese proficiency in their first year. Further study in their major subject occurs over the next two years. Excellent graduates can also be recommended to continue studying at Jiangsu universities.
