The first day witnessed three renowned professors from the US delivering courses on pharmaceutical and medical treatment.

Through the use of several historical case studies, Professor Jie Jack Li from the University of San Francisco introduced the students to the history, pharmacology and synthesis of top drugs.

The lecture on the question “Where do new drugs come from?” by Professor James Barrett from the Department of Neurology at Drexel University College of Medicine also aroused great interest among the students.

He offered the youngsters an in-depth exposure to the many different facets of drug discovery and development, ranging from the early identification of a molecular target, the multiple steps involved in preclinical assessment and clinical development, and finally approval and post-marketing activities.
