Jiangsu seeks to expand educational cooperation with ASEAN

The 10th China-ASEAN Educational Cooperation Week, sponsored by the ministries of foreign affairs and education, opened in Guiyang, capital city of Guizhou province on July 28.
The conference which attracted over 2,000 experts and officials seeks to foster cooperation between educational institutes in China and ASEAN countries.
Wang Chengbin, deputy director of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, expressed his appreciation for the increase in communication platforms such as the Jiangsu-ASEAN Vocational Education Principal Summit, which enables frequent exchange visits and prolonged cooperation.
He said the growing number of international students and training teachers from ASEAN to Jiangsu contributes immensely to the expansion of institutes. To further promote cooperation, he announced that the Jiangsu government has established the Jasmine Scholarship for outstanding exchange students from ASEAN.
Closer ties between Jiangsu and ASEAN countries has spurred on the recognition of vocational colleges such as Nanjing Polytechnic Institute and Wuxi Vocational Institute of Commerce which reached an agreement to enroll about 100 Myanmar students for programs in mechanics, electronics, and business in 2016.
Wang Chengbin encouraged the fostering of more positive collaborations, the cultivation of application-oriented highly skilled talents, personnel recruitment and organizing regular bilateral activities.
Jiangsu Education Department proposed the alliance between Chinese and ASEAN vocational colleges in 2016, to encourage exchanges and economic development in South East Asia.
