Li’s schoolmate, Wang Peng, a masters graduate from the university’s School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, also attended the camp. He was chosen for inventing a “magical” thin film, which is made mostly of various metals and can save as much energy as generated by the magnetic field, while simultaneously being non-conducting.

Wang explained that this high performance enables the film to be embedded in mobile phones, helping to achieve various convenient functions, such as preventing phone batteries from electromagnetically interfering with transportation cards.

“This technology has long been monopolized by foreign companies, but now all that has changed,” Wang said.

Owing to its wide application in near-field communications, wireless charging and radio frequency identification, the technology has won appreciation from Nanjing Panda Electronics Co, the smart phone manufacturer OPPA, and State Grid.

Jiangsu has long been a home of innovation and entrepreneurship. The competition has been held successfully in the province for six years. It is the largest of its kind in Jiangsu, attracting many talented participants and producing many creative ideas.
