Like many young Indonesians, Narulita Wardhani used to worry if she’d be able to secure a good job after university. But two months on from graduation, she’s not only in full-time employment, she’s gaining new skills every day.

Narulita says that the key to her success was a training program launched by her alma mater, Nanjing Polytechnic Institute, four years ago.

The school in Nanjing, Jiangsu province partners with Chinese employers with operations overseas to provide skills training for international students, who can then work for the Chinese businesses in their home countries after graduating.

Narulita completed the program earlier this year, and successfully secured a job at the Indonesian branch of Jiangsu Delong Nickel Co. So far, it has worked out brilliantly.

In her two months at Delong, she has already gained valuable experience managing reimbursements and tax payments and producing fiscal expenditure reports.

“The working pressure for fresh graduates in Indonesia is unimaginable; employers put such a high focus on both academic degrees and hands-on experience. Thanks to the program, I can now work in my desired company, get well paid, and forget about all that other pressure,” says Narulita.

She is one of the first graduates of the program, along with 10 other Indonesian students working at Delong in a range of departments including human resources, procurement, and power plant operations.
