Students who will sit the 2018 National Postgraduate Entrance Examination this December started their on-site confirmation of personal information on Nov 9.

Jiangsu universities, especially those based in the provincial capital of Nanjing, gained high popularity among the students.

According to a recent report from Xinhua, the number of students partaking in this year’s national exam reached a new high. Aside the usual case of college undergraduates being the majority, more and more former college graduates and fresh graduates from famed colleges, facing the ever-fierce job market, have chosen to join the “test army” and “shelter” on the campus for a few more years.

“Actually I’ve found a job, but I want to pursue my postgraduate study and become a teacher in the future,” said a student from Nanjing Agricultural University.

She is applying for a master’s degree of pedagogy at Nanjing University, the most prestigious college in Jiangsu.

“I feel much at ease now, as I can take the exam with my job offer,” she said.

Nanjing University has received approximately 20,000 online registrations for the admission test this year, while the school’s planned enrollment is about 5,400. Moreover, half of the school’s full-time postgraduate studying opportunities will be taken directly by recommended students, those who have won nationally recognized academic advantages.

“In fact, the students will compete for about 3,000 master’s studies,” said Bian Qing, an admission officer at Nanjing University.
