Zhang Xiang, chief designer of the satellite, said the new device has taken advantage of the mature nano-satellite technology, equipped with China’s self-developed deorbiting device, and weighs only 2.4 kilograms.

“The satellite has integrated various functions such as measurement and control, image and data downloading, and voice data transmitting,” Zhang said, “It is also developed with a HD optical camera, which can capture space photos of the highest resolution among those shot by other Chinese satellites for scientific education purpose,” he added.

According to Zhang, the satellite entered the intended orbit with a variety of scientific knowledge popularizing activities commencing in Huaian. For example, local youngsters can engage themselves in practical operations of satellite measurement, image downloading, voice transmitting, and ground station remote control, while radio amateurs from across the world can also try communicating with each other.

“It [The satellite] serves as a window and platform encouraging enthusiasts all around the world to learn and discover the space,” Zhang said.
