The first World Food Festival hit the campus of Jiangsu Food and Pharmaceutical Science College (JFPC) in Huaian, north Jiangsu, on Jan 19.
Students from nine different countries gathered together at the school cooking center and tried their hands on various Chinese and foreign dishes.
They offered participants with their hometown flavor, such as the Yamsalad from Laos, Osh from Tajikistan, Beef Rendang from Indonesia, and also introduced them to the unique cultures and customs lying behind the delicacies.
The jiaozi-making (traditional Chinese dumpling) part also raised much interest among the participants, during which they enjoyed every process from kneading the dough, rolling the skin, mixing the fillings, to finally cooking the dish.
School officials and local police officers were also in attendance. Zhai Weiwei, vice president of JFPC, congratulated the students for the excellent results they achieved at the recent HSK test and also extended her New Year wishes to them.
With enticing aroma delighting their taste buds, the students had deeper understanding of each other's cultures and got their hearts tied closer.
JFPC has taken food science as its characteristic major to attract and cultivate students. The school plans to invite more students, both from home and abroad, to take part in the second World Food Festival next year - a bigger event for mutual cultural understandings and delicious communications.
