Wuxi to welcome new grad school and research institute

The Wuxi municipal government and Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST) signed an agreement on March 29 to jointly establish a graduate school and a research institute in Wuxi to promote graduate student education and research collaboration.
Taking advantage of NUIST's teaching resources, the graduate school will recruit students in fields such as meteorology, electronics and communications engineering, control engineering, environmental engineering, and accounting. It will focus on conducting scientific research related to programs it undertakes, as well as in fields concerning Wuxi's economic and social needs.
The institute will take full advantage of the university's ability to attract talent and its high quality atmospheric and information science courses to provide a scientific research platform for national sci-tech innovation and economic growth, carry out national and provincial key programs, accelerate the transformation and industrialization of achievements in sci-tech, and propel Wuxi’s advancement in industrial technology, as well as the development of the city's economy and society.
At the signing ceremony, Li Beiqun, president of NUIST, appreciated the Wuxi government's concern with and efforts to boost government-school cooperation. The construction work of the new campus is now underway.
Wuxi acting mayor Huang Qin said the joint graduate school has been listed as one of the city's key 2018 projects. He hopes that the two parties will strengthen collaboration to ensure the school will pass the Ministry of Education's inspection. Meanwhile, the government will continue to support the university and help it become established in Wuxi.
During the ceremony, a delegation from NUIST visited the construction site and held a meeting with the university staff in Wuxi, offering advice to ensure preparations for the new campus go smoothly.
