Twenty-one college students from Taiwan recently flew across the Straits for a two-week internship in Nantong, Jiangsu province.

The first training internship initiated by Nantong and Taiwan, the camp led the students to seven local companies, where they broadened their horizons and sharpened their skills in hotel management, e-commerce, and art.

The camp was also aimed at striking a chord among Taiwan students, enhancing their understanding of the Chinese mainland, and encouraging them to work or start up their own businesses across the Straits.

Nantong has put forward a series of preferential policies to attract Taiwan students. The city has also been ranked by the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association for six successive years as one of the most investment-friendly cities.

Five local training centers opened their doors to Taiwan students, inviting them to develop practical skills.

Taiwan students can also take part in a three to six months' internship at a local college student internship center, where they can get an extra living allowance based on no less than 75 percent of the local minimum wage.

Students who intend to have their own businesses in Nantong can also apply for start-up loans up to 120,000 yuan per person ($17,468).
