September has seen 53 colleges and universities in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province, welcoming a new group of 200,000 students.

Taking a further step from the tradition of each school holding its own orientations for the newbies, Nanjing played host to a collective opening ceremony on Sept 29, extending sincere wishes to the Class of 2022.

Officials including Zhang Jinghua, municipal Party secretary of Nanjing, and Lyu Jian, president of Nanjing University, expressed their welcomes and placed high hopes on the students.

Six programs helping the youngsters conquer initial unfamiliarity and enhance their responsibility were also launched, such as visiting local museums, doing internships at companies and residential communities, hosting cultural and sports competitions, and making convenient and intelligent facilities accessible at more campuses.

One of the most education-focused cities in China, Nanjing has long been among the top choices for students pursuing further studies.

The city acted out impressive vigor and vitality in attracting competent personnel this year, with the first seven months witnessing roughly 306,700 graduates entering the local job market and benefiting from employment insurances, a year-on-year growth of 52.1 percent.

The increase was ascribed to the local government offering assorted preferential policies, covering the graduates' settlement, interview, employment, and start-up business.
