Jiangsu student takes ping-pong gold at 2019 Special Olympics

Jiangsu student Wu Bairong claimed two gold medals at the table tennis men's singles and doubles at the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from March 14 to 21.
"I have been working very hard for my medals," said Wu, a technical school graduate from Binhai county, Yancheng city, Jiangsu province, after the games.
Wu practiced table tennis for nearly three hours every day during his time in Binhai, enabling him to claim first place in the men's singles (16-21 years old) at China's Special Olympics in 2018 and secure his admittance to the national team.
A multi-sport event for athletes with intellectual (learning) disabilities such as autism and Down's Syndrome, this year's Special Olympics featured around 7,500 athletes from 200 countries and regions, marking the largest group of participants ever.
The Chinese squad, made up of 104 athletes, won 60 gold, 61 silver and 37 bronze medals at the games in track and field and swimming.
