East China's Jiangsu province is seeking to attract overseas students to study in the province as part of its "Study in Jiangsu" initiative, the provincial government announced at a press conference in Nanjing on June 11.
As a crucial part of the province's annual plan to help develop China's Belt and Road Initiative, the educational drive will be rolled out using a variety of methods, such as promoting the "Study in Jiangsu" brand, deepening the Talent Selection Program targeting students from countries involved in the BRI, improving the "Talent Map" which is conducive to closer ties between students and enterprises, strengthening industry-university-research integration, and cultivating professionals for Jiangsu enterprises with businesses overseas.
The announcement also encouraged higher learning institutions to more closely cooperate with each other and set up branch campuses overseas.
The Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education issued the Talent Selection Program targeting students from BRI countries in 2018. A renewed version of the "Talent Map", an information platform enabling universities to cultivate international students and allowing companies to seek talents, was launched in May.
