A summer camp series inviting overseas Chinese students to rediscover their Jiangsu roots was launched in the provincial capital of Nanjing on June 26.
The camps, which have engaged over 1,000 students from countries including the United States, Canada, Mongolia and Spain, will be carried out until August in seven cities (Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Nantong, Lianyungang, Huaian and Yangzhou). The regional camps will highlight local features, such as Nanjing focusing on its history as the capital of six ancient dynasties, and Suzhou showing off its water town culture.
"It is a platform for overseas Chinese youngsters to learn about their ancestors, learn about local culture and experience China's development," said Ma Jianguo, a local official.
Launched in 2012, the camps have been held 12 times and attracted over 500 overseas Chinese students from some 20 countries.
