A short-term exchange program called INCiTE, targeting students from five world-leading universities, opened in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, July 8.

The two-week project, the first of its kind in Jiangsu, is the result of joint efforts by Jiangsu Education Services for International Exchange (JESIE), an official branch of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, as well as the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom, the University of Sydney in Australia, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and Jiangsu-based Soochow University.

A total of 135 students and 11 teachers are attending the program and will immerse themselves in the cross-cultural climate and brainstorm on various innovative and entrepreneurial topics.

Wang Chengbin, deputy director-general of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, said Jiangsu's higher education sector is spearheading two-way international exchanges between thousands of Chinese and foreign students every year.

The INCiTE program was conceived to ride the wave of such technological booms as the internet, cloud computing, big data and artificial intelligence, and to answer the ever-growing need for young makers with global visions.

Officials from the five universities also attended the opening ceremony.
