The Swiss brain research initiative, Blue Brain Project, signed an agreement with Southeast University (SEU) in Nanjing July 8 to collaborate in studies of neuronal morphology and brain simulation.
Sean Hill, director of Blue Brain Project, and Ding Hui, general accountant of SEU, signed the agreement.
The cooperation will take advantage of the two sides' strengths, with SEU contributing to the reconstruction of neuronal morphology and the European institute focusing on reverse engineering of mammalian brain circuitry.
They will attempt to create a digital reconstruction of cerebral neurons which, through man-machine coordinated intelligence, machine vision and virtual reality, will pave the way for further research on brain-based and brain-inspired intelligence technologies and applications.
The Blue Brain Project was founded in 2005 with a mission to identify the fundamental principles of brain structure and function. SEU has won worldwide recognition for its deep roots in bioscience, brain science and biomedical engineering, and has made eye-catching breakthroughs in neuron reconstruction since partnering with the Allen Institute for Brain Science in the United States last year.
