An international student from Jiangsu University in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province, joins a local teenager for a puppet show on Aug 24 after having been introduced to puppet making and performance skills earlier that day. The Chinese folk art enchants both locals and foreigners, as the ancient form of storytelling and entertainment integrates flat articulated cut-out figures, sources of light and a translucent screen. By moving both the puppets and light sources, various effects can be achieved, helping the figures to walk, dance, fight, nod and laugh. Shadow play, or shadow puppetry, boasts a long history and has been recognized as a living tradition in China. [Photo/IC]
