Taiwan college students attending a summer camp in Nantong, Jiangsu province, try their hands at the ancient Chinese styles of printing and papermaking on Aug 25. The movable-type printing, invented by Bi Sheng during the Song Dynasty (960-1279), uses movable components and reusable clay types to print certain books. The technique did not have a dramatic impact at the time – as the Chinese written language has too many characters for it to be effective – but spread to other countries 200 years later and helped to advance world civilization. A total of 44 students from 32 Taiwan colleges attended a month-long internship in Nantong starting on Aug 6. Currently, there are more than 200 young people from Taiwan working or operating businesses in Nantong. [Photo/IC]
