Lou Qinjian, secretary of the Jiangsu provincial Party committee, welcomed a delegation led by Stephen Toope, chancellor of the prestigious Cambridge University in the United Kingdom, on Sept 9.
The two sides shared ideas on joining hands in educational and cultural development, officials said.
Lou Qinjian said it was important to create a climate that is rich in scientific and technological innovation, while being concerned about protecting intellectual property rights.
He looked forward to the Cambridge University-Nanjing Center of Technology and Innovation bringing quality educational resources in Jiangsu -- even helping make the Yangtze River Delta region better connected -- and conceiving more practical products that can truly benefit people's well-being.
The Cambridge chancellor, who was in attendance for the cornerstone laying ceremony of the joint center, expressed his gratitude to the Jiangsu and Nanjing governments who gave solid support to the center.
He said he was impressed by Jiangsu's economic and social achievements and was eager to explore more cooperative opportunities in education, healthcare, medical treatment and new materials.
The cornerstone laying ceremony hit the ground on Sept 10 at the Jiangsubei New Area in Nanjing, which was recently recognized by the Ministry of Commerce as a new free trade zone in China.
The new area aims to further facilitate high-level opening-up and boost high-quality development through deeper reforms.
