The welcome ceremony for a group of 292 students and teachers from Australia, who will be on a six-day cultural visit around Jiangsu, opened in the provincial capital of Nanjing on Sept 17.
The third year since its initiation in 2017, the program has engaged over 600 students and teachers from the Southern Hemisphere, carrying the hope of enhancing cultural understanding and strengthening friendly ties.
Gu Yuehua, deputy director-general of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, addressed the welcome ceremony, noting that Jiangsu and Australia enjoyed long-standing and deep-rooted ties in educational cooperation. Recent years have seen the two sides extending common ground by forging sister schools, sending students and teachers to each other, sharing teaching inspiration and doing joint scientific research.
She encouraged the Australian students and teachers, who were mostly on their first visits to Jiangsu, to take the chance to learn about China, its language and culture, and share their experiences and reflections with friends and families when are back in Australia.
She also invited more Australian people to visit the eastern Chinese province, which will on one hand strengthen their own Jiangsu ties and on the other strengthen connections between the two countries and contribute to greater Sino-Australian cultural and educational exchange.
