An international cooperation and development forum on agricultural modernization took place at Jiangsu University in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province on Dec 15.
Educational and agricultural insiders from both home and abroad attended the event, exploring new ways to cultivate international talent on an industry-school basis and strike a balance between the talent supply and demand sides.
Yan Xiaohong, president of Jiangsu University -- a school with advanced experience in the integration of industry and agriculture -- described mechanical and intelligent progress as the two wings of agricultural modernization.
"Colleges and universities shall on one hand strengthen scientific and technological innovation to fully stretch their wings, and on the other hand cultivate high-end talent to meet market demand," Yan said.
The forum saw a total of 20 companies inking cooperative talent training programs with Jiangsu University. A fund worth 2 million yuan ($288,193) for teachers as well as Chinese and foreign students was also established, to fully support their research, study and internships.
Business representatives shared their views on industry-university cooperation.
Cai Jibo from YTO Group, a domestic agricultural machinery leader, said the company is carrying out a program in Africa, targeting the export of agricultural equipment, training of professional staff and the establishment of a pre-sales and after-sales network.
Lyu Mingli, president of the Shanghai Irrist Corp, said the company is looking forward to more cooperation with Jiangsu University and exporting intelligent water and fertilizer equipment, which are in urgent need in Africa.
