Exponents of Kesi, a traditional Chinese weaving technique, invited international students to experience the art of needle work and threading in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, on Jan 8.

Grouped with pupils at the local Canglang Experimental Primary School, the foreign students straightened up and sat properly in front of the weaving machines.

They first framed the horizontal gold threads onto the weaving machine, outlining their designed pictures or words.

Then they used small shuttles and colorful threads – integrating with vertical weaving technique – to fill in the interior parts inch by inch, before finally completing their handicraft.

The international students are from the College of Textile and Clothing Engineering at Soochow University. They said the cultural immersion activity opened a cultural door in front for them and enabled them to get an insight into the craft.
