The awards ceremony for a major story competition targeting teenagers from both sides of the Straits was held in New Taipei City in Taiwan on Jan 19, according to the organizers.
Over 200 students from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan -- in primary, middle and high schools – scooped awards for the best stories, most innovative stories, most touching stories and most persuasive stories.
The competition was attended by more than 400,000 teenagers from across the Straits and 30,000 of them made it through to the semifinals.
Yang Yuping, a sixth-grade student from Chahar Road Primary School in Nanjing in eastern Jiangsu province, impressed the judges with her words about Wang Yangming, one of the most important Neo-Confucianism thinkers and writers in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
"I'm honored to get the prize; I also cherish my family and teachers for their cultivation and will keep on reading all kinds of books," Yang said.
Lo Kuo-chun, an awards presenter, said good stories came after wide ranging, deep and voracious reading all the time.
"Profound knowledge is not learnt in a day. We must lay our foundation solid and deep, so as to bring out in-depth, reasonable and touching words," Lo said.
