Chinese students from Lianyungang Normal College, as well as their schoolmates from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, treated each other to their local delicacies on Jan 19.

A chocolate dessert served by Tajikistani students was praised as the best food of the day. It was easy to make the specialty, as first nicely blend melted butter, milk and nuts, then shape them into small round balls, and mount some shredded coconut stuffing as a final decoration.

A dish which integrated Chinese culinary appearances and Russian flavors won thumbs-up from the picky foodies. It was made from crab stick, corn, salad and cucumber, which have its raw materials shaped into regular patterns, and then dressed by some Chinese parsley.

"The food has brought me a taste of home. I've been in Lianyungang for three years and this was the most authentic flavors I've ever tried outside my hometown," said a Tajikistani student.

A student from Russia said dishes such as braised fish in brown sauce, bean curd roll and stir-fried shredded potatoes have introduced her to a real China, better than what she has learnt in TV shows aired in her home country.

Wei Huiyu, an official at the school, said more cultural exchange activities integrating Chinese and foreign features will be held in the future and international students are encouraged to be cultural envoys.
