Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education sent letters to colleges students and parents of primary and middle school students Feb 2, announcing the delay of the spring semester and extending good wishes and expectations.

The letters said all nurseries, kindergartens, primary and middles schools, vocational schools, and higher learning institutions in Jiangsu are not allowed to open the new semester until Feb 17. Cram schools are prohibited from holding on-site classes before the new semester.

The department urged college students to pay close attention to notices posted on their schools' official websites, WeChat accounts and other platforms, and to not return to school in advance without permission. Students who stay in school during the holidays should obey their schools' rules and virus prevention and control procedures. They are advised not to go outside, attend or host gatherings during the winter holidays.

This is a good time to develop good habits and follow a reasonable timetable, the letters said, encouraging primary and middle school students and their parents. Students were advised to take the chance to study independently and take care of themselves, and the parents to set themselves as an example and create a family environment which is suitable for learning.
