Officials from the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education recommended local schools properly use weekends for teaching, in order to catch up with classes delayed by school lockdowns during the COVID-19 outbreak, local media reported May 11.

Senior schools are being encouraged to use one day of the weekend, while half a day is suggested for primary schools. The summer holiday has also been delayed for three weeks to help students catch up with their studies.

Lu Yuexin, director of the basic education office at the department, said the Ministry of Education has made unified regulations on schools' teaching plans. Schools shall make plans for the entire semester and arrangements on classes for each week.

To avoid giving students too much work, schools are also encouraged to appropriately lengthen class hours.
