Scholarship Program for Undergraduates Studying Overseas
Program Overview
The program is developed by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education (JPDE) and presented by the Jiangsu Education Services for International Exchange (JESIE), an official branch of JPDE.
The program was designed to increase professional competence and international awareness of undergraduates in Jiangsu province and to increase the percentage of the undergraduates with oversea study experience.
Application opens in every December to full-time undergraduates studying at colleges and universities affiliated to the Ministry of Education, JPDE, and municipal governments, as well as private colleges and universities. Fresh graduates, students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, as well as international students are not included in the program.
The program selects and sends over 1,000 students from Jiangsu colleges and universities every summer for four to five weeks of study in 40 courses delivered by 18 renowned overseas higher learning institutions in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and Germany. Participants may be awarded credits by their native universities in accordance with coursework offered by the overseas universities.
Financial Support
Students in the program are jointly funded by JPDE, participating schools and the participants themselves. The provincial government allocates 10,000 yuan ($1,412) to each participant to cover their part of their tuitions overseas. Additionally, all the colleges and universities involved should provide funds no lower than the provincial contribution.
Full scholarships are open to students from colleges and universities affiliated to JPDE and municipal governments only, with each participant getting an average of 50,000 yuan.
Program Participation
From every December to next January, JPDE issues an announcement for candidate selection. JESIE implements the admission by strictly following the process of student online application, school verification, public demonstration and recommendation, and approval and release of participant list by JPDE.
Program Details
JESIE signs an agreement with overseas universities, illustrating academic arrangements, overseas reception plans, as well as the responsibilities of both parties. The program duration is four to five weeks.
