The 42,000 surgical masks donated by chorus members of a children's institution in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province were recently shipped to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH), local media reported.
On June 8, Ji Ping, the Chinese ambassador to BIH, presented the masks to Bisera Turković, deputy chairwoman of BIH's Council of Ministers and minister of foreign affairs. A letter expressing the love and concern of Wuxi children to BIH people was also presented to the minister.
The donation was inspired by a cultural exchange in BIH last year, during which children from Wuxi established friendly ties with the European country.
The idea to support BIH earned solid support from parents and teachers, who helped to raise almost 100,000 yuan ($14,149).
"We once sang the song To a Friend from Afar together. Our BIH friends are innocent and lovely and we want to share our love and concern to them through these masks," said a child from Wuxi.
