Si Shushu, a college student from Shuyang county in Jiangsu province, recorded the story of how her fellow countrymen help fight the COVID-19 epidemic in a 13-minute video, local media reported July 6.

Si, a third-year student majoring in arts and media at Tongji University in Shanghai, said she was motivated by Li Huaping and Li Huazhong, two brothers also from Shuyang county, her hometown.

Hearing the news that Hubei province was most heavily hit by the epidemic, the Lis were concerned about how people there were managing their daily meals and decided to donate fresh vegetables to the area.

Since Feb 7, 37 cars of fresh vegetables worth nearly 1 million yuan ($142,900) and weighing over 370,000 kilograms have been transported to the epicenter in Wuhan, Hubei.

"Apart from the Lis, many people in Shuyang county have expressed their love and care to Hubei residents, including vegetable workers, car drivers, villagers and local officials," Si said. "Everyone is gearing up and making concerted efforts to help people in Hubei."

Si said the days recording the Lis had refreshed her understanding of rural areas.

"Rural areas are no longer miserable places full of poverty and difficulties," Si said. "They can even offer solid support to urban areas when the latter are in crisis. The lives of people there have also improved greatly."
