In the process of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, Wuxi educators have played a significant role by helping Chinese schools with low education quality.
Chen Hai, a Wuxi teacher volunteering in Yan'an, said he is always prepared to go where he is needed.
In August 2019, Chen, a teacher at the Chenghua Senior High Scool of Jiangyin in Wuxi city, East China's Jiangsu province, along with five other Wuxi teachers, started volunteer teaching for a year at the Yan'an No 1 Middle School in Yan'an city, Northwest China's Shaanxi province.
After arriving, Chen studied Shaanxi textbooks and observed the students' educational level, preparing thoroughly for every class.
Chen said he has very strict quality requirements for his classes – they must be easy to understand and interesting. He created fun classroom activities for English situational teaching with students as the main body.
Chen also often converses with his students about the beautiful scenery of Jiangnan (a region south of the Yangtze River) and the folk customs of Shaanxi.
While he was teaching, students showed more interest in English classes, and their grades improved significantly.
In addition, Chen led a teaching and research group at the school to study various subjects together, and helped his colleagues modify courseware and improve their teaching plans. He also offered to give open classes.
In addition to normal school hours, Chen also gave six morning reading classes, three night self-study classes, two night Q&A sessions, and more. He said sometimes he felt tired at night but will not give up.
Chen said that as a CPC Party member and teacher, he came to Yan'an to do all he could for the local people and will always take classes seriously.
Wuxi has provided assistance to Yan'an since 1997 and they have cooperated in areas such as teacher training, educational research, school management, moral education seminars, and teaching facilities.
