A group of 11 teachers from a Tibetan school in Changzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, recently escorted 148 students to Lhasa to sit their high school entrance examinations, the last exams of their middle school days.
The teachers also companied the Tibetan students for the last 12 days of reviewing, during which they had to overcome altitude stress and deliver classes for three hours every day.
"We all had altitude sickness, but once we were in class, we just wanted to help our students get the point. That's our mission," said Yang Yanhua, a senior teacher.
The students expressed their confidence in the exams, with some saying the school ranked high nationally in the quality of its teaching.
As part of the first education support program initiated by the central government in 2002, every year about 150 students from Tibet travel around 4,000 kilometers to study in Changzhou and will return to their hometowns after three years. From next year, students can directly sit their high school entrance examinations in Changzhou.
"Every student is a flourishing galsang flower," said Yao Yi, vice-president of the school. "I hope they can stay true to their dreams."
