Students show their blue dyed handkerchiefs during a campaign to learn traditional Chinese cultural heritage in Nantong, Aug 5. The blue allover printing and dyeing technique has been carried forward in the area since the Mind and Qing dynasties (1368-1911). The process includes engraving patterns on a plate, mixing paste made of soybean flour and lime powder, dyeing the indigo blue into the cloth, and scraping out the paste to make the cloth blue and white.
