The latest opportunity for Taiwan college students to attend internships and gain work experience started in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, Aug 3.

More than 160 students took part in this year's training camp, enlarging the total number of participants to 2,100 in the past four years. They will be working in State-owned, private and Taiwan-funded enterprises in finance, education, culture, manufacturing, logistics, management, media and pharmaceuticals.

Cheng Kai-wen, who attended the first edition three years ago and is now a law postgraduate at the prestigious Tsinghua University, shared his feelings on a video message.

He said Jiangsu welcomes the investment of Taiwan business people and the training camp inspired him to launch his own business and try to realize his dreams in Jiangsu.

Wang Hsing-wen, who will be doing her master's at Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, said she cherished the opportunity and will take advantage of the camp to sharpen her practical skills. Before making up her mind to study in Nanjing, Wang gave up studying traditional Chinese medicine in Budapest, Hungary, but is always committed to promoting Chinese culture around the world.

According to the Jiangsu Taiwan affairs office, the province has set up 12 national cross-Straits youth employment and entrepreneurship bases in recent years, helping Taiwan college students and young entrepreneurs to study, take internships, or start businesses in Jiangsu.

More than 1,600 internships in Jiangsu have been offered to Taiwan students. Fifty students who performed with excellence during their internships can earn a bonus of 6,000 yuan ($860), and 100 students from families in financial difficulties can receive a subsidy of 4,000 yuan.
