Vocational schools in Jiangsu province agreed at a recent conference that deepening industry-education integration and school-enterprise cooperation as well as exploring new models for talent training were of utmost priority in developing vocational education, local media reported on Sept 3.

The Guanghua Campus of the Jiangsu Vocational Institute of Commerce, home to a large group of leading enterprises, is a shining example of the potential of industry-education integration. Over 100 students majoring in logistics and chain business management took internships at the 30,000-square-meter flagship Suguo supermarket, which is located on the campus.

"It's just a part of our normal training and has been included in our talent cultivation plans," said Xue Maoyun, dean of the school. "We will continue to build cultivation bases with Suning E-commerce and JD."

Vocational schools are also looking to integrate and reorganize majors to increase their competitiveness. For example, Yangzhou Polytechnic Institute focuses on high-end equipment manufacturing, new-generation information technology, and modern services.

"We have removed 12 majors and added 14 new ones in the past three years," said Fu Wei, deputy dean of the school. "Majors such as green chemicals, intelligent manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and modern services have also become more interconnected in order to provide the best education possible.

Schools are also striving to better serve society, such as Jiangsu Vocational Institute of Commerce. The school has boosted the local economy by providing companies based in its science park with consistent research and talent support, helping them boost profits and contribute 200 million yuan ($29.26 million) in total in taxes. It has also helped more than 5,000 small and medium-sized companies with transformation and upgrading and offers adult education and training to over 30,000 people every year.
