About the course

International commercial law is a body of applicable rules, principles and customary practices that govern cross-border commercial activities of private parties. It adjusts international commercial relations with regard to sales, transportations, insurances, payments and so on. With the development of globalization, international commercial law plays a very important role in our modern society.

Considering the limited teaching hours, we have to concentrate on some essential commercial rules and regulations, such as international commercial organization law, contract law for international sales of goods, international agency law, international negotiable instrument law, international intellectual property (IP) law, and international dispute settlement law. In this course, some famous international conventions, treaties, trade customs and usages, as well as typical national commercial laws are introduced in detail.

The purpose of this course is to help students engage in diverse international commercial activities with necessary legal awareness. There is no doubt that a successful businessman should recognize basic legal risks before making important decisions. In order to cultivate students’ legal thinking and improve their abilities to analyze and solve problems , we adopt case study and group discussion as interactive teaching methods. Guest speakers from leading companies or law offices are occasionally invited to join the seminar and share their rich experiences.
